In the Summer of 2019, I grabbed my portable charger that had been sitting in the corner of my room for two years, and placed it in the sun. That was the start of a personal challenge that I had started to see if I could go the whole summer without having to plug my phone into the wall. It worked – sort of. In the GLOBR podcast, NORTH, I talk about what exactly happened, and some of the challenges I faced during this period of time that I chose to do the challenge.

Well, this year, the Summer Solar Challenge is coming to you. This year, we will be challenging you to make the device of your choice solar powered throughout the whole summer. This may sound like a daunting task, but it will surely be a fun challenge to do while stuck inside.
Now for the boring information. The challenge will start on Friday, June 19 and will end on Monday, August 31. I use a solar charger called the Waka Waka Power +, which is about $78.97 USD. There are alternatives like this one on Amazon that is listed for $29.99 USD. You can log your hours of solar every week by clicking here, and the leaders of the challenge will be posted regularly.
Will you participate in this summer’s challenge? If so, how do you think it will go?
